Asbestos Removal
The first time I had ever heard of
asbestos was when I was in eighth grade in high school. My
school had a relatively new auditorium, but it was still full
of this dangerous chemical. It was used for a long time because
it is very fire resistant, and many wanted to have it in places
like schools or other public buildings to help keep people safe
in the event of a fire. That backfired though, as they soon
found out that exposure to the material can lead to cancer.
Many places had to undergo asbestos removal, and my school
auditorium was one of them.
Asbestos removal took quite a while back then, and we had to
use the gym for events that might have otherwise been held in
the auditorium. It seems to me that it took an entire school
year for the asbestos removal to be complete, but the memory is
a little hazy now. I do remember that we could not go anywhere
near the place where they were removing the asbestos, and they
even had to block of rooms and hallways nearby just to be on
the safe side. There were signs, warnings, and daily reminders
to never try to venture into that part of the school.
If you are in construction, you are probably well aware that
asbestos removal is very common when an old building is being
remodeled. If any is found in the building, nothing can be done
until the asbestos removal has been completed. This often sets
projects back, especially when they had no idea they were going
to find anything. If you are considering such a project, make
sure your first step is to look for asbestos so that the
removal will not set you back too far.
You cannot do asbestos removal on your own. There are people
who do that and only that for a living. I believe they have to
pass tests and be licensed to do it. When a construction
project comes upon it, they must stop and hire someone to do
the asbestos removal. There aren’t many construction companies
that have people qualified to do it within their ranks, so it
is essential to hire someone else to do it. The stuff is
dangerous, and you should never mess around with it if you find
it somewhere. Call for help and get it removed as soon as you
can.
