I remember when I was young that I
thought I wanted to get out of the small town I was living in
so that I could move to the big city. I didn’t care which one,
but several crossed my mind. I did leave, but I never ended up
where I thought I would be, though that is usually how things
go. One of the first places I thought of was the Big Apple, but
when I found out about the prices of New York apartments, I
knew that I would probably not be going there any time
soon.
What I didn’t realize was that though New York apartments
are expensive, I didn’t have to carry the burden on my own. I
could have had a roommate if I really wanted to go. I could
have had a few roommates, even. I also didn’t realize that many
jobs in the city pay more and though I wouldn’t be rich, I
probably could have afforded one of the smaller New York
apartments anyway. I just knew I didn’t have anything close to
what I would have needed to move there, so I quickly crossed
that off my list.
I ended up in a smaller city, but I did come to know many in
my college that knew a lot about New York apartments. They had
lived in the city for a long time, and they knew all about
them. From what they told me about New York apartments, I would
not have been happy in one that might have been affordable to
me. The ones on the lower end of the scale are usually
unbearably tiny and are not in the best neighborhoods. They had
lived in many of them throughout their lives, and though those
things are all true, they say they wouldn’t want to live
anywhere else permanently.
If you are looking for New York apartments in the city, and
are going there for the first time, you might want to go the
roommate route the first time you go. That way you know how
much you will have to spend, and you also know that you won’t
be alone. If you are going to school there, your college should
be able to help you find New York apartments if they don’t have
accommodations for you. It can be wildly exciting to live in
New York City, but make sure you are aware of what you are
doing, and that you know you’ll be okay.
