always loved do it yourself projects,
but up until recently, space has been a problem. I could only
do the most simple home projects in my small apartment.
Carpentry projects were right out of the question. Instead, I
would content myself to work with clay, wire, and other simple
materials. I would make many sculptures and pictures, but I
would also make household implements such as spice racks and
shelves. The only woodworking projects I could engage in were
the smallest ones. I could do whittling, wood carving, and
little else. I just simply did not have the space or the
tools.
Now, suddenly, I have a new house. You can bet that I'm
going to get into some woodworking projects! I've been waiting
for this for a long time. Growing up, I always took woodshop
projects for granted. You see, my father was a professional
woodworker when he was young. Although he changed careers, he
still kept a passion for woodworking projects that he passed on
to me. I can remember building a go cart with my father when I
was 12 years old. It was one of the most exciting things that I
have ever done. I loved watching the pieces go together. I
still can't get over how neat it was. You start with raw pieces
of wood, and end up with a finished, sleek looking machine.
Living in a city like I do, however, woodworking projects
have been out of the question for a long time. I guess it was
worth the sacrifice, because I needed to get out of the small
town where I grew up, but I miss working with my hands on my
own projects. Doing the small craft stuff was fun, but real
woodwork projects are what I live for. I actually work as an
apprentice to a carpenter, and although I can occasionally use
his shop, my own personal projects often get left by the
wayside. If you are into doing your own woodworking projects,
there is no substitute for having your own space. My boss was
nice about it at first, but eventually he kicked me out of his
woodworking shop. Now that I have a whole workshop for my
woodworking projects, he can have his space and I can have
mine. I cannot remember the last time I was so happy. I am so
excited that I can't even decide where to start. Fortunately,
there is plenty of time for all my woodworking projects.
