There are plenty of writer markets, but
taking advantage of them is a bit tricky. If you are new to
freelancing, it may seem like a vast and uninhabitable desert.
Finding a valid writer market that will allow you to publish
and make money can be next to impossible if you are just
beginning. Once you get the hang of it, however, and have a few
contacts, it becomes much easier.
The trick with the writer's market is the hustle. You see,
in this digital age, writer market jobs come and go at speeds
you wouldn't believe. You have to have a high-speed connection,
a finished and polished resume and cover letter, and the time
to regularly check writer market sites. You also have to be
willing to work in a variety of different fields, and to fake
your way through writing assignments that you might not be
familiar with. There are, believe it or not, short story
writers markets, and even markets for novelists, but before you
can succeed in any of these areas you have to be willing to do
a lot of drudgery. You have to be willing to take the jobs when
they come, make all the contacts you can, and keep working
toward that goal of becoming a successful writer.
A lot of people get into of the writer market as a way to
make money while they write books. They think that it will help
them become an author, and allow them to make their living
through writing. In reality it can do just that, but you have
to keep your eyes on the prize at all times. You see, once you
start working as a freelance writer, it is easy to lose track
of your independent projects. You have to make sure that your
creative writing – or whatever else you want to do – always
gets priority. Even if you have to work to meet a deadline, you
should take time to do your own writing each and every day.
Making money on the writer market is only half of the story.
Becoming a successful writer requires more.
What is great about the writer market is that it will teach
you skills to market yourself. You will understand what
publishers look for, and how to write your own advertising
copy. Learning to sell yourself on the writer market is an
invaluable skill if you wish to become a published author.
